THINK………………..

leave a comment »

During the easter break I have been doing a lot of thinking about our graded unit, found it very hard on what it is I want to do it on. Have a few ideas but still not sure yet, will post ideas later once I’m more certain on what I want to look at.

I also heard back from Edinburgh College Art, I have an interview this Wednesday for second year painting, fingers crossed!

Eye Charts

I decided I wanted to continue more with the eye chart techniques, swapping the letters with flowers which started with that particular letter instead to portray a more different approach. I decided to mark out individually each section of the chart first to the exact area it would be on the chart. I used drawing techniques from my research to portray each flower differently. I decided on choosing the drawing the outline and detail technique first to give a more obvious look of he flower.

I then decided to block out the colour and detail totally  in the next chart. I  filled the flower shape totally by using a fine liner, creating a striking contrast with the black.

dscf7067

Happy with the progress so far.

My final decision was to only draw using the outline of the shape, capturing a bold composition.

I think the three charts are successful as a group, each chart compliments each other as a whole piece.

More work

I am pretty pleased with my work so far as I feel I am more confident in my mark making and I am more focused on where I want to go with the project. This is a painting I did this morning where I joined six pieces of paper together, making one large surface. I painted a flower keeping my eyes closed, making sure I did not look at the surface. I wanted to capture the fluidity and movement with the marks and I will then separate the six pieces of paper which will then make them into their own final pieces.

Here are some pieces of work that I have been working on recently.

I also had another crit today which was incredibly irritating because I didn’t know what I wanted to say…………………………….i still don’t! I am finding this project frustrating now as I don’t know what I want to express exactly! I really need to keep away from the sight/site approach immediately!

Aesthetics

One of the main branches of philosophy, how it physically looks and connects with the idea and the meaning itself.

Beauty

Art and beauty are never considered to work together until aesthetics. This is an individual experience due to taste, beauty and judgment.

Sublime

Solitary experience, perfect and something that is beautiful.

Expression

Communicate feelings, emotions, exploring thoughts and ideas.

Significant Form

The relationship and combination of line, shape and colour to evoke emotion and the overall aesthetic.

To copy and imitate your own version.

Work so far!

Here are some of my ideas and work so far.

dscf7002

In this drawing i focussed on three important lines from a row of plants in the glass house, i continued the three lines not allowing the pen to leave te paper, creating movement and fluidity.

dscf6997

These four images i will be drawing from, firstly covering the paper all in pencil and creating contrasting window shapes by using a rubber to remove the material. This will create a composition portraying how an individuals eyesight can perceive objects from its shadow and light, to create the line itself.

Conceptual Project

leave a comment »

The last month has been a roller coaster journey again for myself, however art has kept me going thankfully! For my conceptual project I have decided to carry on working with site/sight as I still have various ideas left to experiment……….possibly three dimensional work! I visited the botanical gardens again to take more photographs in the glass house of all the various textures, shapes and detail from all the plants. This week I have mostly been drawing, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Tonight was the opening/closing of our site/sight exhibition, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to everybody who came!! The compliments and positive feedback from friends and various other visitors about the college itself highlighted how lucky we are with our spaces and facilities.

Preperation for the exhibition

Today we organised and hung our work for our sight/site exhibition, which took longer than we thought but we got there in the end! I am very pleased with all our work as I feel we have progressed greatly throughout the year so far. I am content with my own work and still think there is potential in my project still.

Ideas and Experiments

I have been experimenting with braille this week and looking at how i can portray nature and braille together. I am drawing the outline of trees in braille letters spelling out line, branch, leaf and twig in p.v.a glue. These marks have been applied onto the surface all running in the direction of the branches and leaves.

dscf6846

This drawing represents how foggy and unfocused my eyesight is without my contact lenses in. I drew the flower in fine liner and charcoal, added a light wash to the drawing to create a blurry effect.
